But they didn't want to go home empty-handed and be one of the first teams out after Sunday eliminations of the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways near Seattle.

Spencer and the team led by crew chiefs Phil Shuler and Todd Okuhara had a solid qualifying effort that placed them seventh in the 16-car Top Fuel field.

During the opening round of Sunday's eliminations, Spencer's Battery Extender dragster slowed to a 3.880 at 292 mph that was not enough to advance past Troy Buff's 3.816-second pass at 312 mph.

"That one was tough for us," Spencer said. "We had a great car in qualifying and our in the first round of eliminations was on pace with our Friday night run in qualifying where we went 3.81 and then something just happened. I don't know if it was something on the track or what but the car just lost traction and we have nothing on our data to show why."

It was Spencer's fourth first-round loss in the past five NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events.

"It's disappointing," he said. "We really wanted to get some momentum going and have a trophy to show for our efforts here on the swing. The guys will go home, we'll regroup and go after it in Brainerd. We all need a week off, deserve a week off and hopefully it does us some good. We'll definitely be hungry for some round wins in Brainerd."
