SACHS Returns to V8 Supercars Winner's Circle

A pair of Red Bull Racing Australia one-two results at the Queensland Raceway V8 Supercars event has seen SACHS return to the top of the Championship standings.

In both of the Saturday 100km races, five time champion Jamie Whincup led home his team mate and SACHS brand Ambassador, Craig Lowndes, with both drivers moving up in the point standings.

Following the final 200km race, where Whincup finished sixth with Lowndes once again in second, the pair now sit first and third respectively in the title chase.

For Lowndes, the weekend was especially important, after the most recent event in Townsville left the three time champion languishing sixth in the points race.

"We struggled with pace in race one today and I made a mistake exiting turn six which allowed Jamie to pass me, but it was great that we had a one-two finish for Red Bull Racing Australia and I was happy with my bounce back after Townsville," said Lowndes after the opening pair of races.

"We knew we had to make some adjustments for race two knowing that the track was also going to cool down. We were lucky that the two guys in front of us had their own battle, which allowed us some clean air and saw us come home strong at the end.

"The whole team did a great job today giving us a double one-two finish, which is giving us some good momentum and confidence."

The V8 Supercars Championship returns for the ninth event of the season on August 22-24 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Meanwhile elsewhere at Queensland Raceway, SACHS returned to the top of the top of the Dunlop V8 Supercar Series point standings, with Eggleston Motorsport driver Paul Dumbrell claiming both of the race victories from the weekend.

The Dunlop Series is next scheduled to race at Mount Panorama alongside the Bathurst 1000 on October 11, with the event featuring a new 250km mini-enduro format.

On the world motorsport front, ZF, the parent company of SACHS has continued a successful season.

At Rally Finland, Volkswagen continued its domination of the World Rally Championship, with another one-two result.

On this occasion Jari-Matti Latvala got the upper hand by only 3.5seconds from Sebastien Ogier, with Ogier continuing to lead the World Championship pointscore.

With the new engine and chassis regulations in Formula 1 in 2014, some things remain the same, with both the Scuderia Ferrari and Sauber outfits continuing to utilise ZF dampers, while Lotus F1 utilises a ZF clutch.

In other top-flight competition, ZF is once again supplying clutches to the factory prototype efforts in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) from Audi, Toyota and commencing this season, Porsche.

The highlight of the WEC, the Le Mans 24 Hour, saw a ZF podium clean sweep, with a pair of Audi R18 e-tron Quattros leading a Toyota Hybrid over the finish line.

Once again all competing cars in the DTM depend on a ZF clutch, with the control component this year to also to be fitted to all Japanese Super GT entries from Nissan and Lexus.

For the first time in 2014, the distinctive ZF logo appears on the sides of the DTM BMW driven by Maxime Martin, with the combination recently claiming victory at the Moscow round.

In addition to supplying components to many GT based race cars from multiple manufacturers, for this season ZF has stepped up as an official series partner of the newly formed TUDOR United Sports Car Championship.

A merger between the American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series, the combined entity has provided strong fields consisting of a varied mix of prototypes and GT machinery.

For the TUDOR Championship, ZF is offering trackside support for competitors from marques such as Audi, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche, as well as many of the prototype entries.

A recent North American development for ZF is a technical partnership with Honda Performance Development, which is seeing high performance clutch and shock absorber technology utilised in a variety of categories, including Indycar.

The collaboration has already seen the distinctive ZF logo visit victory lane at the Indianapolis 500, with Ryan Hunter-Reay claiming victory in the 98th running of the famed race.

Showing the versatility of the ZF product range, the company in 2013 claimed its third straight FIA European Truck Racing Championship with Jochen Hahn, whose MAN is fitted with a ZF Ecosplit 3 transmission and ZF clutch.

In off-road heavy duty competition, ZF clutch and gearbox components helped Hino Team Sugawara to a fifth consecutive victory in the under 10 litre truck division of the 2014 Dakar Rally.

This year ZF will also continue its commitment to categories such as the World Touring Car Championship, Formula 3, the VW Scirocco Cup, as well as various other open wheel and off-road categories.

Locally, ZF race products are available through Triple 8 Race Engineering, while all road car components are distributed by ZF Services Australia.
