Harrison Scott Increases Lead in Formula Ford Championship

Following a long mid-season break, rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2014 Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain took place at Snetterton circuit in Norfolk last weekend. Harrison continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship with Falcon Motorsport, his team which is second in the overall standings, despite coming away with a more modest trophy and points haul than events past.

Track running commenced on Friday with two test sessions. On old tyres in the morning, championship leader Harrison set the top time of 1:50.660 minute, however, he was unable to improve his speed on new tyres in the afternoon and he slid down the time sheet to P3. Qualifying took place early on Saturday morning with Harrison qualifying third for rounds 16 and 18 of the weekend, 0.611 second off pole position.

Sunny and dry conditions welcomed Race 1 (round 16) at Snetterton on Saturday afternoon. After a clean start by Harrison, Ashley Sutton (MBM) slipped behind him from P2 and fell back yet further to sixth place behind Falcon team mate Ricky Collard. Harrison maintained second position for the remainder of the 20 minute race to clinch another podium at the chequered flag and increase his championship lead to Kruger, 389 points to 371.

The reverse-grid Race 2 on Sunday morning saw plenty of action for the Falcon Motorsport team. The battle for third, however, was the highlight of the race with James Abbott (Radical), after being passed by Sutton and Ricky Collard, briefly holding on to third before succumbing to manoeuvres by championship front-runners Harrison and Kruger. The rival pair where then locked in a close knit fight from lap three to the chequered flag. With Harrison defending superbly for the entirety of the stint, he crossed the line a tenth of a second ahead of Kruger, and by doing so gained the P3 trophy and a further two points on his title rival.

The weekend finale late on Sunday afternoon was a difficult race for the Faringdon squad. After a long and hot day, and on tyres that were struggling for grip, Harrison lost a position early on in the proceedings and could not extract the pace he required out of his Eco Boost Mygale car thereafter. The 18 year old, from Essex, came home in a respectable fourth place to collect more valuable points for his championship title charge.

Harrison Scott, #6 Falcon Motorsport:
“Points wise it has been a very positive weekend. In the first two races we finished ahead of Jayde [Kruger] and in the last one we were only two places behind. Overall it’s been tough though. We are very happy to have the two podiums, but in the last race I didn’t have much to go on. Fourth place is a solid point’s result, but we want to be challenging for the wins so we need to continue to investigate our issues before Knockhill in three weeks’ time.”

The next rounds of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship take place on 23/24 August at Knockhill circuit, Scotland.

2014 Provisional Drivers’ championship standings after Round 18:
1 #6 Harrison Scott 435 points; 2 Kruger 421; 3 Marshall 364

2014 Team championship standings:
1 JTR 771; 2 Falcon Motorsport 738
