2014 Watkins Glen: Trevor Bayne NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

· Bayne earned his best finish of ninth at Watkins Glen in the 2011 NNS event after starting from the 11th position.

· In 10 career starts on road courses in the NNS, Bayne has recorded five top-10 finishes and has an average finish of 18.8.

· According to NASCAR’s loop data statistics, Bayne ranks ninth in fastest speed late in a run (118.175 mph), and 10th in green flag speed (117.829 mph). The driver of the No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang also ranks 11th in laps run inside the top 15 (153), quality passes made (45) and in speed early in a run (117.403 mph).

The Car
· Crew chief Chad Norris brings chassis RK-775 to Watkins Glen this weekend. This chassis raced earlier this season at Road America and twice in the 2013 NNS season on the road courses of Road America and Mid-Ohio, earning a best finish of ninth at Mid-Ohio.

Recapping Iowa
· Bayne took the green flag from the pole position at Iowa Speedway after earning the top spot in the final seconds of qualifying. After pacing the field for the opening 31 laps, Bayne was shuffled back to second but was able to maintain his track position inside the top five for much of the 250-Lap event. After pitting for two tires late in the event, the driver of the No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang took the green flag for the final time in the third position and was able to fend off all challenges to earn a third-place finish and claim Nationwide’s ‘Dash 4 Cash’ prize of $100,000.

QUOTE WORTHY

Bayne on racing at Watkins Glen:
“Watkins Glen is a fun track to race on. It’s one of the faster road courses we go to each year and you’ve got to make sure that you’re on your toes both through the high speed sections and in the braking zones. I’m excited to get there this weekend with my No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang and I know that Chad (Norris) will give me a great car and will have a great strategy for us that will hopefully get us to Victory Lane when the checkered flag falls.”

Crew Chief Chad Norris on Watkins Glen:
“Road course racing is totally different from anything else that we do. You’ve really got to call these kind of races backwards and plan your strategy from the end to the beginning. I’m excited for the challenge that comes with road course racing and our AdvoCare team is really rolling with some momentum right now after winning that $100,000 last week. We’re all ready to go.”
