2014 Watkins Glen: Ty Dillon NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

This Week's Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet Camaro at Watkins Glen International ... This weekend Ty Dillon will race chassis No. 133 at Watkins Glen International. This Richard Childress Racing-prepared Camaro was raced earlier this season at Road America to a 19th-place finish. Chassis No. 133 was raced last season at The Glen by Austin Dillon.

Dillon in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at WGI ... The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to the second of three road course races on the schedule this weekend at the eight-turn, 2.45-mile road course. Dillon will be making his career debut at The Glen, but was able to test a Trans-Am Series Chevrolet Camaro on July 29.

Learning to turn right ... Dillon has been sharpening his road course skills over the past several months. He participated in the Ron Fellows Driving School on May 5, tested at Virginia International Raceway on May 27, finished 19th at Road America in the Nationwide Series, and drove the No. 12 Chevrolet Camaro in the Trans-Am Series race at Road America to a fourth-place finish.

BBQ at the Brewery ... Have you ever wanted to visit America's Oldest Brewery? Ty Dillon and grandfather/team owner Richard Childress are scheduled to make a pit stop at the historic Yuengling Brewery on Thursday, August 7 for its annual BBQ at the Brewery. Dillon and Childress are scheduled to sign autographs for Yuengling patrons from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at 5th & Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, Pennsylvania. This event is open to the public.

America's Oldest Brewery on board ... D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., an American Owned and Family Operated brewery based in Pottsville, Pa., has partnered with Richard Childress Racing's No. 3 Nationwide Series team this season. Brewing beer for 185 years, Yuengling will be featured on the hood for the fourth time this season.

Iowa Speedway race rewind ... Dillon qualified 15th for the U.S. Cellular 250 presented by New Holland. He was able to drive his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet Camaro inside the top-10 for most of the 250 lap event. In the end, the 22-year-old driver got a good restart on lap 247 to finish fifth; the team's third consecutive top-five finish.

Points update ... Dillon moves up to a tie for third place in the driver point standings, but is ranked fourth by virtue of top-five finishes. Also competing for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award, Dillon is in second place.

Meet Ty Dillon... Dillon is scheduled to sign autographs and meet with fans at the Tops grocery store on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. located at 504 ½ S. Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY. He is then scheduled to visit the Walmart on 515 E. 4th Street, Watkins Glen, NY beginning at 6 p.m.

How are your road course skills?
"I'm learning a lot, for sure. I've been getting a lot of good advice and have been able to get valuable track time at both Road America and Watkins Glen before the race weekend begins. The Trans-Am test I did last Monday with Austin (Dillon) helped with learning the corners, when to shift, and where you can pick up the most speed."

What's it been like the past few weeks at RCR?
"We're really hitting our stride. We were able to pick up another top-five this past weekend in Iowa following the win in Indianapolis. On top of that, my brother was able to get a win at Pocono Raceway in the Camping World Truck Series, which was a big win for that team and our partners at Yuengling in its home state. I think this shows how we didn't give up after a slow start to the season. ECR Engines continues to give us the best motors in the sport, and all the guys in the shop continue to put a lot of hours into making these racecars top-notch."
