GB Autosport Ready to Rebound at Road America

Although contact prevented the team from the finish they were seeking in Indianapolis, GB Autosport looks for a positive run in the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America this Sunday. Damien Faulkner and Ben Barker will reunite again behind the wheel of the No. 81 Tully’s Porsche 911 GT America for Round 8 of the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

After suffering contact in the opening 30 minutes of the Brickyard Grand Prix two weeks ago, GB Autosport showcased what has become the team’s trademark teamwork in challenging circumstances. The crew made short work of a repair that should have taken over an hour to have the car back on track and able to run laps all the way to the finish for yet another checkered flag for the first year IMSA squad. They now look to the winding 4-mile, 14-turn Road America circuit to build on that result, and a continual positive progression with the Porsche GT America, for the team’s first outing at the track.

Road America features elevation changes, technical turns, and some flat-out high speed bends for the drivers as both Faulkner and Barker are prepared to put the Tully’s machine to the test and drive home to a positive result at the end of the 2.75-hour race.

Faulkner has two previous starts around the driver-favorite track and will look to use that local knowledge to help get Road America first-timer Barker quickly up to speed. Barker who made his IMSA debut in Detroit, will add to his American experience with his first-ever visit to both the state of Wisconsin and the historic track. Barker arrives fresh from an eighth-place finish at the Hungaroring in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup competition.

This weekend will mark the first time the duo has driven together since their season-best result of fourth at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and they look to repeat that success again this weekend.

“We are looking forward to Road America,” said Team Manager Cole Scrogham. “The team reacted perfectly at Indianapolis, but hopefully we can have a race where we aren’t fighting back like that. We have been learning so much about this car and these tires and we are all ready to hit the track running in Elkhart Lake. Damien (Faulkner) and Ben (Barker) showed in Canada I think a glimpse of what this group is capable of and that is what we want to build on again this weekend.”

The Tully’s sponsored team will have two practices ahead of qualifications to ready themselves for the race on Sunday. Qualifications will be streamed live on IMSA.com at 4:20 PM (ET) on Saturday. The green flag for the race is set to drop on Sunday at 1:15 PM (ET) and will be aired on FOX Sports 1 at 6:30 PM (ET).
