Podium Target for Kyle Gimple at Road America

Following a tough outing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kyle Gimple looks forward to continuing his upswing in momentum in Round 9 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Road America. For the 2.5-hour Continental Tire Road Race Showcase, Gimple and his Compass360 Racing co-driver Ryan Eversley are hoping to race their No. 75 Compass360 Racing Children’s Tumor Foundation/HPD/ Racing4Research.org Honda Civic Si straight to the podium.

After scoring a fifth place starting position on the grid for the Brickyard Grand Prix, gearbox gremlins showed up shortly after the start of Gimple’s stint and forced the No. 75 machine out of podium contention. In spite of the issues, both Gimple and Eversley powered on to finish the race and score both team and individual driver points despite having to work their way through traffic with a limited selection of gears.

As Gimple now heads to the famous Road America circuit located in the hills of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, he looks to put his experience of three previous starts around the challenging 4-mile, 14-turn circuit to good use and bring home another positive result.

Ahead of Indianapolis, Gimple scored three consecutive top-five finishes, including a win at Watkins Glen and is prepared to continue that momentum around the demanding track. As the starting driver, Gimple also qualifies the No. 75 Honda Civic for Compass360 Racing. He has delivered strong qualifying runs in the previous three outings and looks to go for a fourth consecutive top-five starting spot in qualifying on Friday.

“It’s such a fun track to drive, but at the same time it is really intense and demanding,” said Gimple of Road America. “It has some great corners and opportunities for passing, but you really have to completely commit 100%. Indianapolis was disappointing, but that’s the kind of race that shows just how important every point you can get for this championship is so hopefully we can bounce back. All the Compass guys have worked so hard to get the car ready and I am really excited to get out on the track and show everyone what we can do.”

The weekend will see Gimple participate in two practices ahead of qualifications at 3:05 PM (CT) on Friday. The race will go green Saturday at 12:15 PM (CT) and will be aired LIVE on IMSA.com.

FOX Sports 1 will broadcast the race on August 17th at 12:00 PM (ET).
