2014 Watikins Glen: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Road Course Racin'...Justin Allgaier will make his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Watkins Glen International this weekend. Sunday's race will be his second NSCS road course start this season. He has two top 10s and has led one lap in five NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at the 2.45-mile road course. One of Allgaier's three wins in the NNS came at a road course, at Montreal in 2012.

Pocono II Recap...Justin Allgaier completed his second NSCS start at Pocono Raceway. He made it to the second round of knockout qualifying, earning the 22nd starting position for the 160-lap race at the Tricky Triangle. He was caught up in a late-race multi-car accident but managed to stay on the lead lap and finish in the 16th position in the AccuDoc Solutions Chevrolet for HScott Motorsports. He tied his best career finish, earned at Michigan International Speedway earlier this season.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Pocono, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Watkins Glen International:
"I'm looking forward to Watkins Glen [International]. I like road course racing and I was pretty good at it in the Nationwide Series. I'm hoping since I've raced on this track before that I'll have a better result than I did at Sonoma [Raceway] earlier this year. Since I've raced at Watkins Glen before, I have the basics down so it's not completely foreign to me like Sonoma was. It definitely won't be without its challenges though because there's so many great road course racers in the Sprint Cup Series."

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Watkins Glen International:
"We have a lot of momentum coming off of Pocono [Raceway]. The guys have been working really hard at the shop and the results are starting to show it. Justin has raced at Watkins Glen a few times in the Nationwide Series which is helpful. He knows what he likes in a car and we can use that to build our setup for this weekend. The track schedule is a little different this weekend with two practice sessions on Friday and only qualifying on Saturday, but we've adjusted how we will run the practices and I think we will have a solid weekend."

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
