Bastianini And Antonelli On The Pace In Indianapolis Free Practice

Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3’s Enea Bastianini and Niccolò Antonelli starred on the opening day of the Indianapolis Grand Prix, having obtained respectively the sixth and the eighth fastest time at the end of the first two practice sessions.

After a morning session on a damp track, Enea Bastianini was able to learn quickly a track for him completely unknown in the afternoon session, completing 15 laps - all with the same tyres - the best of which in 1’43”466, 0.9 seconds off the pace.

His teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, who last July 24th had a surgery to reduce the fracture to his right collarbone sustained during the summer break, he managed nevertheless to complete 17 laps in the afternoon, ending the day with a best time of 1’43”505.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (8th - 1'43"505)
“I’m really happy! This result is a surprise for me too, because when I came here I didn’t know how I would feel physically when I would have been back in the saddle, but actually I can ride the bike well, although of course now I'm tired. I did a lot of laps and after a while the shoulder began to bother me, but this is normal. Among other things, today I didn’t want to use pain killers, I think I will use them only for tomorrow’s qualifying”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (6th - 1'43"466)
“In the morning session we couldn’t do much: the track was damp and it was hard to understand how to ride. In the afternoon, however, the few drops of rain didn’t bother us and I could start to push harder; I was fast and I made the entire second session with the same tyres; this means that we have taken a big step forward. The track is fast and I like it a lot, I think we can do very well this weekend”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“It was definitely a good start, especially if we consider that for Bastianini it was a completely new track, while Antonelli is recovering from a fractured right collarbone surgery. Both our riders have therefore done a great job, despite the damp track in the morning has further complicated the things, causing us to lose valuable time. Niccolò is obviously not physically one hundred percent and he’s annoyed by the right shoulder, but he still managed to do a lot of laps, so we are confident. Today went well: tomorrow it will be important to be again consistent in qualifying”.
