Second Row Start for Kyle Gimple at Road America

Following a flying four laps around the high-speed Wisconsin Road America circuit, Kyle Gimple will start Saturday's Continental Tire Road Race Showcase from the second row of the grid.

The result marks his fourth consecutive top-five qualifying result of the season and will see him and his co-driver Ryan Eversley looking to drive their shared No. 75 Compass360 Racing Children’s Tumor Foundation/HPD/ Racing4Research.org Honda Civic Si to another podium finish.

The qualifying effort not only showcased Gimple’s excellent qualifying talents, but also the team’s hard work after an issue with the car forced them to sit out the second of only two practices around the track. But the Compass360 crew rallied to remedy the issue and Gimple quickly got up to speed in the qualifying session to score a fourth place starting position.

For the 2.5-hour race, which constitutes Round 9 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and final four-race push to the end of the season, Gimple is prepared to utilize the busy 54-car combined ST and GS fields to his advantage around the winding circuit and work his way to the front.

“We had been having transmission issues the past few days, but the crew did a really great job and we finally got that worked out and went into qualifying hoping to get some speed out of the car,” said a pleased Gimple after qualifying around the 4-mile, 14-turn circuit. “I knew drafting was going to be a big deal here and I actually never really got true help with drafting on my lap. But getting P4 shows just how strong the car is even without that. It felt great and handled really well. I popped off a lap that was P4 and I knew there was still more in it after that first hot lap and then I went about a tenth quicker and I even left a bit on the table. We are sitting really nicely in fourth right now and we are looking forward to going into the race and staying clean.”

The green flag for Saturday’s race will fly at 12:15 PM (ET) and the race will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com. FOX Sports 1 will broadcast the race on August 17th at 12:00 PM (ET).
