2014 Watkins Glen: Ford NASCAR Nationwide Race Quotes

EARLY IN THE RACE YOU HAD CONTACT WITH KYLE BUSCH, WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS AT THAT POINT? "The spotter said he was sticking his nose in and I kind of half closed the door and made contact. I knew it wasn’t over, that is for sure. I gotta thank Nationwide Insurance for a great series, my team RPM, the King, Stanley and Ford Racing. This is a once race deal here. We do one Nationwide race a year and we won it. I am thrilled for the guys. I have a part time crew chief and part time car chief and here we are in victory lane. I had my tongue hanging out all day. I had nothing left. I had to make up all the ground from the spin and Joey was super fast in the middle and I had to hold him back. Kyle really pressed at the end and came alive. Another lap and I would have been in real trouble."

A CHASE BERTH IS ON THE LINE TOMORROW. WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY TO HELP YOU TRY TO GET VICTORY TOMORROW? "I just want to enjoy today. You get to victory lane and it is special. I would love to repeat but it is a lot of work tomorrow. I want to think about this and get a good night’s rest and come attack them tomorrow."

HOW MUCH EMPASIS GOES INTO TOMORROW’S RACE FOR YOU? "There is a lot at stake. You are racing for millions of dollars and a spot in the Chase and pride and for the King. There is a lot going on in my mind. I can’t try more than I did today. If I can repeat my performance today with the effort I will be pleased no matter the result."

BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 22 Hertz Ford Mustang - FINISHED 4th

"We had a real fast Penske Hertz Mustang. We just came up a little short. I thought we had really good speed and made some runs at it but not enough to clear on the passes that I needed. Whoever got up front looked like they were going to use the clean air to run away and Marcos did a great job with that and we just came up a bit short."

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FOR TOMORROW IN THE CUP CAR? "It is so difficult to pass and it will be probably even more difficult in the Cup car so we have to find a way to fight through it."

JOEY LOGANO, No. 12 Snap-On Ford Mustang - FINISHED 3rd

"I wasn’t very good on the long run there and I can hang with Marcos for awhile and was actually faster than him. If I could have gotten clean air I thought I could drive away but by the end of the race he was just faster than me. I started losing the tires through the carousel and he started pulling me a little there. I started abusing the rear tires to try to get my balance back and then I didn’t have a rear tire or front tire and was just haging on the last few laps. This 12 team doesn’t race many races but they put together a great Snap-On Ford for me today. We were close, a caution or something would have been more fun for me."

JOEY LOGANO, No. 12 Snap-On Ford Mustang - PRESS CONFERENCE TALK ABOUT HOW YOU FELT IT WENT OUT THERE TODAY. "The 12 car doesn’t get to run many races. Greg Erwin and all the guys with the Snap-On Ford did a great job for me all weekend. We unloaded okay and then made our worst point on the race track into our best point. Really, coming into the race I thought the long runs would be where we shined but it couldn’t have been more opposite when the race started. We were good on the short run and I thought better than Marcos there but the last run we just barely got beat out of the pits. We raced each other up through two and clean air was worth a ton. The car didn’t handle good behind other cars, especially through the carousel. I was trying to hang with him and waiting for him to make a mistake but it turns out he is pretty good and doesn’t make mistakes. I was hanging and hanging and ran my stuff too hard and blew the front tires off the car. I was trying to figure out ways to get the thing to turn again and burned the rear tires off the car. I didn’t have anything left and was on damage control until the end of the race. Overall it was a solid day. I really want to win a road course. It is something special to say you won a road course. Anytime you can say you gave Marcos a run for him money it makes you a little proud inside."

CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU RAN OVER THE DEBRIS? "I ran over debris? I didn’t know. Seriously I didn’t know." WE THOUGHT YOU JOKING. "No, the lap cars were really bad today. I don’t know if they have mirrors in their cars or not but they have no clue where you are at. There were a couple times I got ran two tires into the dirt on the straightaway and that was pretty amazing to say the least. I didn’t think hit any debris. I just got run off the track a couple of times."

WOULD YOU CALL THE KEY MOMENT IN THE RACE WHEN AMBROSE NIPPED YOU COMING OFF PIT ROAD? "Yeah, that was definitely a key moment. If I was able to get in front of him there - all I needed was three-tenths of a second probably and that would have been enough position into that corner to beat him through the esses and get position. I felt like if I got clean air and ran hard that I could have gapped him. I think at the end of the race, he would have caught me and the 54 also. It would have been close. I am not going to say we would have won the race. It would have been close. Our car was good on the short run. Marcos was steady all the way through and the 54, late in the run, was really fast. If I didn’t run so hard and had clean air and didn’t burn the tires off would I have lasted longer? Yeah. Would it have been enough to beat him? We will never know. But I feel it would have been closer for us, for sure."
