Phil Giebler Racing's Wilson Takes Win, Runner-Up In TaG Master At Modesto GP

Ethan Wilson of Campbell, Calif., drove to victory on Saturday and was runner-up on Sunday for Phil Giebler Racing in TaG Master in the Save Mark Supermarkets Modesto Grand Prix, the third and fourth rounds of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour held on Aug. 2-3 on a .88-mile downtown street race.

PGR karter Vatche Tatikian of North Hollywood, Calif., was fourth in TaG Master in the Saturday feature and the team had seven additional top-10s in the prestigious event.

“We showed a lot of speed in all of the six classes we competed and we could have had more top-five results,” Giebler said. “But we had some crashes and a few mechanical failures. Ethan did a great job to come back from fourth on Saturday and was second in another great race on Sunday. He’s one of the top Master (age 30-and-older) drivers in the country and he showed it again.

“Vatche had a ton of potential and posted some of the fastest times of the races, but he finished fourth Saturday and had a DNF Sunday while running third.”

PGR’s John Lewis of Campbell, Calif., was the fastest qualifier in TaG Master on Saturday, but clipped a barrier and flipped his kart shortly thereafter and wasn’t able to completely regain the pace he had. He finished seventh in the feature Saturday and dropped out early in the feature on Sunday.

Sam Paley of Hebron, Ky., had a pair of top-10s in TaG Cadet, eighth on Saturday and ninth on Sunday.

“Sam put together good, fast runs on a consistent basis and came away with two very nice finishes,” Giebler said.

Connor Wagner, a rookie in S1 Pro Stock Moto—the top shifter class in SKUSA—finished ninth on Saturday and 14th on Sunday.

“Connor was looking strong in the final on Sunday, but suffered from his brakes overheating halfway through the race,” Giebler said.

Carter Williams of Clovis, Calif., a rookie in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto, finished eighth on Sunday and 17th Saturday.

“Carter did well to improve all weekend to score a top-10 on Sunday,” Giebler said.

Royal McKee of Las Vegas, Nev., was eighth on Saturday and Hannah Grisham of Glendora, Calif., was 10th on Sunday in TaG Junior.

“Royal had a solid Saturday (qualified 10th, finished eighth and ninth in the heats), but crash damage prevented him from starting the feature on Sunday,” Giebler said. “Hannah made tremendous progress from Saturday (when she was 15th in the feature) to Sunday.”

Myles Farhan of Upland, Calif., entered the Modesto Grand Prix as the Pro Tour points leader in TaG Cadet, but was 17th in the Sunday feature and completed only three laps in finishing 27th on Saturday.

“Myles qualified in third position on Saturday and was fourth in the heat, but contact put him out of the second heat and feature,” Giebler said. “He bounced back to qualify 11th on Sunday, but contact kept him down in the order in the heat and feature.”

Owned by the 2007 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, Phil Giebler Racing is based in Anaheim, Calif., and competes nationally at the highest level of karting in the United States. Giebler is a resident of Huntington Beach, Calif. The team uses Fernando Alonso and Tony Karts and is a major dealer of OTK brands FA Kart, Tony Kart, Kosmic and Exprit.
