2014 Michigan: Jimmy Weller NASCAR Truck Race Preview

• Taking on Michigan International Speedway for the first time... Jimmy Weller will make his very first start at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, August 16 while driving the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado for SS Green Light Racing. After spending time in NASCAR's developmental ranks, Weller's 2014 race schedule is focused on learning NASCAR's larger tracks-those facilities that are 1.5-miles and larger. Most recently, Weller competed with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Kentucky Speedway where he finished in the 22nd position.

• One Day, Two Races... Jimmy Weller grew up watching his dad make laps on the racetrack and celebrating in victory lane, all while dreaming of one day becoming a professional racecar driver himself. Today, that dream has become a reality as Weller races the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as well as the No. 23 Liberty Steel Products big block dirt modified at Sharon Speedway. On Saturday, August 16, Weller will take on the challenge of transitioning from the asphalt to the dirt, to race both cars on the same day. After taking the checkered flag in the Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan International Speedway, Weller will depart for Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, where he will race in the big block dirt modified division later that evening.
• Looking for a Home-Track Advantage... Growing up in Hubbard, Ohio, less than 250 miles from Michigan International Speedway, the two-mile track was the closest stop on the NASCAR circuit to Weller's hometown. This weekend, Weller will look for a home track advantage while racing the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado at the same speedway he visited while growing up.
• Getting Dirty in Victory Lane... While taking a few weeks off from his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule, Jimmy Weller visited Victory Lane at Sharon Speedway on Saturday, July 5. After winning his heat race, Weller started on the pole for the feature and led every lap en route to the race win. It was Weller's first victory at the 3/8-mile dirt track in nearly 10 years; he last won at Sharon Speedway in 2004 driving a 410 Sprint Car.
• Follow Jimmy Weller... Fans are invited to connect with Jimmy Weller, driver of the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado on Facebook (facebook.com/JWellerRacing), Twitter (@JWellerRacing), and Instagram (@JWellerRacing). Fans can also visit JimmyWeller.com for additional news and updates.
• NCWTS On the Air... The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, August 16. FOX Sports 1 will cover all the action from the track beginning with two practice sessions at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 15. Race day coverage will begin with qualifying at 9:30 a.m. EDT on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday morning. The Careers for Veterans 200 from Michigan International Speedway will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

Jimmy Weller Quote... On racing at Michigan International Speedway for the first time: "I'm looking forward to racing our Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. I'm also looking forward to racing both the truck and our big block dirt modified on the same day. I think it will be pretty cool to go from the fastest track that we run at with the Camping World Truck Series, to a short track with our big block dirt modified that night. Clearly they're two very different types of cars and two very different types of tracks, but I'm looking forward to the challenge."

No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Chassis
Jimmy Weller and the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado will compete with chassis No. 118 on Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway. It is the same truck that Weller raced at Kansas Speedway earlier this season where he finished 25th after suffering a flat tire early in the event.
