2014 Michigan II: Justin Allgaier NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

Back to Michigan...Justin Allgaier will make his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) this weekend. Allgaier's NSCS debut at MIS earlier this season resulted in his best NSCS career finish of 16th. Allgaier is looking to improve that finishing position coming off of two top-20 finishes the past two weekends, 16th at Pocono and 17th at Watkins Glen. Allgaier has four starts at MIS in an ARCA car and five NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts. He has one top five and two top 10s in NNS at MIS, and has led 14 laps at the two-mile track.

Watkins Glen Recap...Allgaier made his first NSCS start at Watkins Glen International on Sunday and had a career-best weekend in qualifying with the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture team. He qualified 15th for the 2.45-mile road course race. After two red-flag periods for accidents, Allgaier drove the BRANDT Chevrolet to a 17th-place finish for HScott Motorsports.

Meet Justin...Allgaier will appear at the Team Chevy stage on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. EDT for a Q&A session.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year...After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Watkins Glen, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Michigan International Speedway:
"I can't wait to get to Michigan [International Speedway] this weekend. We had a great weekend there a couple of months ago, so I have a lot of confidence going into the weekend. I think my team at HScott Motorsports is really hitting their stride and I think we will keep that momentum going this weekend. I really like MIS because it's a very fast track and there are multiple racing grooves. It's also a big weekend for our manufacturer Chevy since we are so close to Detroit, so I hope we have a good weekend in their backyard. "

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Michigan International Speedway:
"We are coming off of a good weekend at Watkins Glen [International]. Our pit strategy didn't work out as well as I would have liked with the way the cautions fell, but we still left with a 17th-place finish. Michigan [International Speedway] is a track that Justin really likes and we had a good performance there earlier this season. We have our notes from that race to build on and we've found a few things that work really well for Justin's style over the past couple of weeks, so we should have a good result this weekend."

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
