NASCAR's Youngest Driver At Watkins Glen Scores A Top-5 Finish

15-year-old Kaz Grala earned a career-best fourth-place finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series during the Bully Hill Vineyards 125 at Watkins Glen International (NY) on Saturday, August 8th, 2014. The Glen, a 2.45-mile road course in the southeastern part of New York, has never before seen a driver as young as Grala.

“What an amazing day at Watkins Glen for the Turner Scott Motorsports No. 31 OzLINK Chevy. We were quick in practice and set our fastest lap of the day in qualifying, tying our best qualifying result of sixth, for the third time this season. Right at the start of the race I took fifth place and battled in the top-five until the checkered flag, finishing a personal best of fourth. It was an exciting race on my favorite track so far this year," said Grala. “We worked really hard as a team to get comfortable with the car and the track, and it all paid off.”

This top-five finish was the second for the Boston-native so far this season in his No. 31 OzLINK machine and was his fifth-consecutive top-10, putting him sixth in points in his rookie season.

“As the youngest competitor in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, the team and I knew going into it that we would have an uphill battle as we worked hard to compete against drivers who are older and more experienced than me. This team has worked hard week-in and week-out to make sure we go into each race as prepared as possible and we've been improving each week,” said Grala. “Our position in points and our eight top-10 finishes out of 13 races so far this season shows our determination and how far we've come.”

Next up for Grala and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series is another road course race. The Biscuitville 125 at Virginia International Raceway (VA) will be held this Saturday, August 16th.
