Saavedra Looking To Repeat Previous Success At Milwaukee This Weekend

KV AFS Racing's SebastianSaavedra is looking to repeat the success he had at the Milwaukee Mile last year when he returns for the ABC Supply Co Inc. Wisconsin 250 at Milwaukee IndyFest this weekend on the grounds of State Fair Park in West Allis, WI.

In 2013, Saavedra recorded his IndyCar oval career best qualifying of sixth there and recorded his best finish of 13th. The 24-year-old will be making his third IndyCar start in the No. 17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. - KV AFS Racing car on the Milwaukee Mile, however he has raced there twice in Indy Lights, where he has finished on the podium both times with a best showing of second.

"After a much needed week off to recover, I'm really looking forward to going back to Milwaukee," said Saavedra. "It's another short oval that I enjoy and have had success in the past in Indy Lights and last year I had my best IndyCar qualifying attempt there with a sixth place so I'm not only looking do a good job, but to improve it and we showed we had that strong pace in Iowa. It is a different short oval but still has the same dynamic, so we are going to try and continue that same path. Three races to go and after some unlucky events in the past races I think things are finally going to turn around and I'm looking forward to it."

With just three races left on the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, Saavedra will be hoping to end the season the way he started. The 24-year-old led his first career IndyCar laps at Long Beach and then led laps again a week later at Barber Motorsports Park. He went on to make history by taking the pole for the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis, the first of his IndyCar career, and has shown he can battle through the field on numerous occasions. Saavedra climbed an impressive 13 places in Long Beach, to secure his first top-10 finish of the season and looked to have a podium finish at Iowa in his 50th career race having passed 14 cars, but a "moment", which he almost saved ended in him tapping the wall. As recently as two weeks ago in Mid-Ohio he climbed through the field and was running in sixth with the fastest lap of the race, before a reporting a problem, which ended his day.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Saavedra has been among the youngest drivers in nearly every series he has competed in. He joined the Firestone Indy Lights just before his 19th birthday and that year was awarded Rookie of the Year Honors with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport. He moved to Bryan Herta Autosport for 2010 where he made his Indianapolis 500 debut becoming the third Colombian driver to do so. Saavedra then stepped up to the IndyCar Series in 2011 with Conquest Racing before returning to Indy Lights in 2012. Last year he spent the entire season back in IndyCar with Dragon Racing.

The ABC Supply Wisconsin 250 at Milwaukee Speedway in West Allis, WI will be broadcast live on NBCSports from 3 p.m. ET. on Sunday 17th August and IMS IndyCar Radio can be heard on Sirius 213 and XM 209, check local listings for your local station, or listen at IndyCar.com or on Verizon's INDYCAR 14 app.
