2014 Michigan: German Quiroga NASCAR Truck Race Recap

The No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra team arrived at Michigan International Speedway anxious to rebound from their disappointing finish at Pocono Raceway. Germán Quiroga felt confident as he hit the Brooklyn, Michigan race track for the first time this season, and finished ninth in the first practice session. The team spent the final practice sessions testing different setups and making practice runs in traffic, and finished in the 12th position.

The team advanced to the final round of knock-out qualifying, where they secured a tenth-place starting spot for the Careers for Veterans 200. As soon as the green flag dropped Quiroga began to make his way through the field. He settled into a rhythm and remained in the top 10 until the first round of pit stops, where the team decided to only take fuel. Quiroga remained in the top 10 for much of the race, stating that the balance and handling of his Toyota Tundra felt really good. The final laps of the race came down to strategy, and the No. 77 opted to take four tires and fuel during the last pit stop of the afternoon. This caused the Mexican-born driver to lose a few positions to teams who decided to only take fuel, and there were not enough laps to make up the lost spots. When the checkered flag waved he was marked in the sixth position, remaining sixth in the driver point standings in the fight for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship.

Germán Quiroga Quote:
"We had a really good NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra at Michigan (International Speedway) today. I think we could have gotten a top-five finish but it all came down to strategy at the end. I can't thank all of the guys on my team enough, they worked really hard all weekend, and I'm really looking forward to getting to Bristol (Motor Speedway)"
