2014 Michigan: Tyler Young NASCAR Truck Race Recap

Making his seventh track debut of 2014 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Tyler Young brought home his "career" best finish of 14th in the "Careers" for Veterans 200 on Saturday. The solid result allowed the Young's Motorsports driver to gain one position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver point standings with 10 races remaining on the 2014 schedule.

Young started from the inside of row 11 in the 21st position for the 100-lap event. Battling a Chevrolet Silverado that was a "tick free," Young maintained a position inside the top-20 in the opening laps before coming down pit road under the race's only yellow flag at lap nine for fuel only. Returning to the race track in the 19th position, Young maintained a spot inside the top-20 throughout the remainder of the first-half of the event.

Crew chief Bryan Berry brought Young to pit road for a scheduled green-flag pit stop on lap 51 for two tires and fuel, returning the rookie to the 2-mile oval in the 17th position. In the second-half of the event, Young utilized guidance from Sprint Cup Series spotter Keith Barnwell to perfect his line around the race track and gain valuable track position on the competition. In a race that ended in fuel mileage strategy, Young was forced to come down pit road one final time with 10 laps remaining for a splash of Sunoco fuel. The rookie would gain one position in the closing laps to finish 14th at MIS.

"It was a great weekend for this Young's Motorsports team. We unloaded pretty decent right off the truck. I was pretty happy in single truck runs in practice but struggled in the draft and we finally got it free enough so that I was comfortable in the race. We just ran our own race today. This was my first time here and I learned so much. If I could come back here and unload where we finished today, I think we could be even better. We are making strides and I can't wait to see what the second-half of the season looks like for us."
