Justin Wilson Takes 17th In Milwaukee

After a long day in the office for Justin Wilson, the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda/Dallara came home 17th in the ABC Supply Co. Wisconsin 250 on Sunday in Verizon IndyCar Series competition.

Opening the race from 12th on the grid, Wilson lost ground almost immediately as the balance of the car kept him from defending and he lost positions right at the drop of the green.

“I knew from the moment I looked at the wheel going into Turn-1 on the first lap that it was going to be a handful,” said Wilson about the opening moments of the race.

After stabilizing position in 15th, he settled into a good race pace but wasn’t able to make up ground to the leaders. On fresh tires, Wilson started to dial in his No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda and worked his way inside of the top-10 before making his second routine stop.

With just one caution-period, the 250 lap race clipped by. Finding the best balance for the car on the the fast one-mile oval continued to be elusive as Wilson fought to the finish with a frustrating race result as he kept his head down to ultimately bring the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda/Dallara home to a 17th place finish.

“I really like racing on this track,” said Wilson. “When you’ve got something good with your car, it’s so much fun. But today wasn’t like that, it was really tough. We kept trying to make it better throughout the race, but at the same time I knew it was not something we could change just with tire pressure and wing adjustments. That wasn’t going to fix it. It was just really loose on entry and exit and tight in the middle, so it was kind of the worst of every world. It was just a long day. We will try and learn, but that was frustrating.”

The 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series will stage its penultimate race weekend in just a few days time as the series heads West for the traditional visit to Sonoma Raceway for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma August 24. (NBC Sports Network, 4:00 PM ET).
