Top-5 Finish for Gaulding at VIR

Gray Gaulding and the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Chevrolet team brought home a top-5 finish in the second annual Biscuitville 125 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Gaulding who led 24 of the 60 completed laps, had to settle with a fourth place finish after several late race restarts.

Gray Gaulding and the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts team participated in Friday's promoters test day from 9:30am - 12:30pm at VIR and went into the race day with the mindset of winning Saturday evening's race. Gaulding posted the fourth quickest time during Saturday morning's opening practice session and second fastest during final practice. Gaulding would line up fourth in his group of six to qualify Euorpean style, with a fast time of 1.29.074 and an average speed of 90.936 miles per hour. Gaulding would start fifth for the second annual Biscuitville 125.

When the green flag waved shortly after 4:30pm ET, Gaulding didn't waste any time making him move and charging towards the front of the field, knowing that starts and restarts would be critical to take advantage of track position. At lap 3, Gaulding had moved into the race lead, where he was able to set his own pace and take care of his Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Chevrolet. The first caution flag flew at lap 19. After a quick clean up, Gaulding received the green flag for the second time at lap 21. With added pressure from the second place car, Gaulding gave up the race lead in order to save his equipment for late race restarts. Gaulding would maintain his position running second throughout the event, before a series of late race cautions with Gaulding restarting on the outside lane resulted in a fourth place finish.

From the Driver's Seat with Gray Gaulding: "I had a blast racing at VIR this place is so unique and really makes for a good race. We led a lot of laps and thought we had something for them at the end, but with so many restarts and being on the outside lane going into turn one was tough. I really feel like I've learned a lot these past two races that will also benefit me at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in a few weeks."

On top of Box with Crew Chief Doug Howe: "These guys in the shop and on the road did an awesome job preparing the car for this race. Gray did a terrific job managing the race as he led laps and also conserved when he needed to. The last caution flag really hurt us, but we learned a lot and are continuing to grow our program."
