First Podium Finish For Kaminsky

Camren Kaminsky had a very successful weekend as The Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship made a welcome return to Thruxton with a top 5 and a podium finish in 3rd.

As the weekend got underway, Kaminsky had a frustrating start with a DNF for the first race. Max Marshall spun at the Chicane on the formation lap, he was able to get going again and took his place on the grid, however he stalled when the lights went out. Kaminsky had a great start but collected his stalled teammate only to rip a wheel of his car, and puncturing Marshall's tyre. A safety car came out while Kaminsky’s car was taken off the track to safety.

Race one was not a foreshadow of the next two races to come, as race two saw Camren take a 5th place finish.

Before the second race began there was a short but sharp shower, which meant a decision for tyres was a tricky one, but all drivers opted for slick tyres for the race. Martin Cao powered ahead and took the lead from the beginning. Matt Rao pushed Kaminsky from 4th then made his way to 2nd behind Cao. Kaminsky continued his pursuit for 3rd behind Max Marshall. Kaminsky’s car was spitting out flames at this point under braking but this didn't stop him from battling it out with his teammate Marshall. The Double R drivers stayed with each other for several laps. However Marshall kept his position leaving Kaminsky in 5th.

Kaminsky on his second race, “I had a bit of bad luck in that one. I tried to shift to fifth, but I shifted to sixth, so I had no fifth gear. The car was then too low geared for the straights, so I was losing about 20kph. In the wet I was doing some reasonable times, but when the track started drying out there was just no advantage. I wasn’t even in the race anymore! The rest of the field just pulled away. So I just focused on finishing. I’m hoping for better luck in the last race, just ‘get a good start’ and the gears will be all right so it will be good!”

The third and final race of the weekend saw Kaminsky take the chequered flag in 3rd position, making it his first podium finish. Kaminsky made a very good start as he went from 5th to 3rd, Kaminsky held on to his position in 3rd the entire race. Team mate Marshall came behind in 4th.

Kaminsky on his podium finish, “I’m happy to get a podium especially after my first and second races here this weekend. It was a good race. I made a good start and took two positions and from there I just held position and maintained the tyres. I was trying towards the end to catch Martin, but as I was pushing hard I was making mistakes and the rears just dropped off so I settled for P3. I can’t complain with this, I’m happy to end up on the podium as it feels good after race one’s collision, and race two with the gearbox problems.”

One of the world's most iconic motor racing venues, Brands Hatch is Camren Kaminsky’s next Formula 3 Championship destination, from the 30th of August.
