Bowman finishes 26th at Michigan International Speedway

Alex Bowman and the No. 23 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 26th at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Bowman fought problems with the balance of his car, and also fought back from minor left side damage in route to the checkered flag.

Bowman rolled off 32nd for the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday afternoon. Making his second start at the two-mile speedway, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate fought the balance of his car early in the event. With the Dr Pepper Toyota Camry loose on entry and tight on exit when traveling through the corners, Bowman and his crew focused on adjustments that would improve the handling of their car. Utilizing pit strategy to gain valuable track position, Bowman raced into the top 20 by lap 40.

Past the halfway point, Bowman ran into a few challenges as his transmission jumped out of gear, and again later when he received slight left side damage after contact with another competitor. Despite the obstacles, Bowman was able to steadily hold his position and went on to finish in the 26th position.

"Our Dr Pepper Toyota Camry was a strong racecar today," Bowman said. "We had a couple things come up here and there, but my BK Racing team didn't give up and we just continued to fight for the best result possible. We lost some valuable track position with some of the obstacles that we came across throughout the day, and with the speeds we carry it's really hard to make up lost ground at Michigan International Speedway."

Next weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will return to Bristol Motor Speedway to battle it out under the lights in the iconic Bristol Night Race. On Friday, August 22, FOX Sports 1 will cover two practice sessions (11 a.m. EDT and 1:30 p.m. EDT), before handing coverage over to ESPN 2 for qualifying at 5:30 p.m. EDT. The Irwin Tools Night Race will be broadcast on ABC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, August 23.
