2014 Bristol: Jimmy Weller NASCAR Truck Race Preview

No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado News & Notes
• First Camping World Truck Series Race at Bristol... Jimmy Weller will make his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway onWednesday, August 20, while driving the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado for SS Green Light Racing. Weller has competed in two NASCAR K&N East events at the track known as the "World's Fastest Half Mile." The Hubbard, Ohio native has completed every lap he has attempted at Bristol Motor Speedway, and has a solid record of always starting and finishing within the top 15. In his most recent trip to the Bristol, Tenn., track, Weller started in the 10th position and secured an eighth-place result.

• Looking Back... Even though Jimmy Weller has been racing for the last 12 years, the driver still experienced a "first" on Saturday, August 16, as he took on the challenge of racing two different cars at two different tracks on the same night. Weller started off his day at Michigan International Speedway where he raced the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel / Engine Parts Plus / Hopek Hardware Plus Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. An engine failure early in the event forced Weller to retire from the event, but it also gave him a head start on his next adventure. After driving nearly 250 miles back to Hartford, Ohio, Weller climbed in his big block dirt modified to take on the competition at Sharon Speedway. In an entirely different discipline, Weller rolled off seventh for the 20-lap feature race. After initially falling one position, Weller fought back through the field to cross the finish line in the fourth position. It was Weller's fifth top-five result at Sharon Speedway this season.
• Learning the Family Business... With a grandpa, dad, uncle and brother who have all worked within the steel industry, Jimmy Weller practically has the steel industry ingrained in his DNA. Just like his relatives before him, Weller is taking time to learn the steel industry while serving as a steel salesman for Liberty Steel in North Jackson, Ohio. Weller splits his time between North Carolina, where he is focused on his limited NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule in the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado, and Hubbard, Ohio, where he is focused on learning the family business at Liberty Steel. Both industries have become a part of Weller's everyday life, as the Sunoco Rookie Contender secured an order for steel last week and delivered it on his way to this week's race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The UNOH 200 presented by ZLOOP from Bristol Motor Speedway will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, and will kick off with pre-race coverage at 8 p.m. EDT.

Jimmy Weller Quotes... On what to expect at Bristol Motor Speedway: "I'm really exited to race at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. Our deal came together pretty late, but I couldn't be more excited to get in the Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado this week. I think the race will be a lot of fun. You drive a lot harder at Bristol Motor Speedway than you do most places. With the short track design and the high banks, it's just a really fun place to get around. Between the driving style and the energy at this track-it reminds me of my old sprint car days."

On the role his past experience at Bristol Motor Speedway will play: "I have a couple NASCAR K&N East starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, which I hope will help our effort this weekend in the Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet. The cars and trucks drive quite a bit differently, but I'm hoping that having that experience and having laps will help us a lot when it comes to working on our line and knowing how hard I need to drive the truck. Our SS Green Light Racing team is always great with helping me get around a new track, but I'm hoping this will shorten our learning curve even more."
