Kyle Gimple Targets VIR Victory Lane

Compass360 Racing driver Kyle Gimple is eager to return to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge action this weekend as the series travels to VIRginia International Raceway. Both Gimple and his Compass360 Racing team have loads of positive experience at the track and Gimple is looking forward to using this to his advantage as he and co-driver Ryan Eversley target a trip to victory lane on Saturday in the Oak Tree Grand Prix.

Gimple was left wanting more after a frustrating outing in the previous round of IMSA competition at Road America. On the very first lap, Gimple’s No. 75 Compass360 Racing Children’s Tumor Foundation/HPD/ Racing4Research.org Honda Civic was the innocent victim of a multi-car crash. Though able to return to competition, the car was significantly damaged and the team was forced to turn their podium aspirations into a goal of simply powering through to finish the race.

IMSA visits VIR for the first time since 2011 but Gimple brings plenty of experience at VIR having raced at the circuit in Mustang Challenge competition as well as in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS action (Ford Mustang with Rehagan Racing/2011) and looks to translate that previous experience into a winning performance. Gimple scored a podium in GS Class competition earlier this year with a big drive to second place at Lime Rock Park in the Compass360 Racing Subaru.

“Unfortunately, with the bad luck we’ve had, we’re pretty much out of the championship so we’re going into the final three races just looking to win and go all out,” said Gimple. “I’ve had two races at VIR in Mustangs so I know the track pretty well. Ryan (Eversley) has won at VIR in the Honda so we have a good place to start for the weekend. I don’t think it will be too hard to get used to the Honda at VIR. I think we should have a strong car again so we’ll just see how it goes.”

The Oak Tree Grand Prix is a highly anticipated event on the schedule for the Compass360 team which has known the quick way around the 17-turn Virginia road course for years. The squad competed at the track from 2008-2011 and has had one car finish among the top-five in each VIR event. Eversley drove to back-to-back race victories in 2010 & 2011. The 2011 race victory saw Eversley joined by team owner Karl Thomson at the wheel.

With a strong team behind him, Gimple anticipates a solid run as IMSA takes on VIR. Gimple has started among the top-five with strong qualifying performances in the previous four IMSA events and looks to carry on that positive trend this weekend.

A promoter test day on Thursday will see the team get back up to speed before two official practice sessions on Friday. A 15-minute qualifying session is set for Friday afternoon at4:40 PM ET.

IMSA.com will carry LIVE coverage of the 2.5-hour race which begins on Saturday at 2:05 PM ET. Follow @KyleGimple on Twitter for updates as well as timing and scoring atwww.imsa.com for updates throughout the weekend.

The race will be televised on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, August 31 at 10:00 AM ET.
