Carol Brown Ready To Porsche Herself To The Limit

Scotland's most successful female racing driver has landed her dream drive at the country's biggest motorsport event of the year.

Falkirk-based Carol Brown will race a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at Knockhill this weekend when the MSA British Touring Car Championship rolls into town and brings crowds flocking to the Fife circuit.

Brown, who has won multiple titles and awards competing against men in some of the country's most competitive championships, will take to the grid for two races in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with the In2Racing team.

The deal to drive the 3.8-litre, 460hp, 911 GT3 Cup came together after a frantic few weeks of sponsorship seeking for Brown, who has been racing this season in the BMW Compact Cup.

She managed to win additional support from existing sponsors and a number of new backers in order to raise the cash needed to showcase her talent on the biggest stage of her career yet.

A capacity crowd is expected to pack out Knockhill to take in the action on Sunday August 24 - which will also be televised live across the UK on ITV4.

Brown will sit in the Porsche for the first time when she tests the car on Friday, before qualifying on Saturday and racing against talent from across the UK in Sunday's double-header.

"It really has been a whirlwind few weeks trying to put everything together to make this opportunity happen, but now I can't wait to get stuck in," explains Carol.

"I actually got a call on my birthday to see if I was interested and it all snowballed from there. I can't thank all of my sponsors enough for giving me this opportunity, and I will do everything I can to repay their faith in me."

With multiple titles to her name in Scotland, Brown sees this weekend's outing as the perfect opportunity to put herself in the shop window for similar opportunities further afield in the future.

"With the Porsche Carrera Cup GB being part of the BTCC package there is such a huge amount of media and fan interest in it, so I want to show people that I deserve to be racing at this level.

"The 911 GT3 Cup is an amazing machine and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it. I've raced and won many times in rear-wheel drive cars before, but it's another huge step up in terms of technology so Friday's session will be crucial in terms of getting to grips with it.

"Knockhill is my home circuit which gives it a little easier, but pitting myself against the calibre of drivers who will be on the grid on Sunday is going to be a really exciting challenge."

After qualifying at 13.50 on Saturday (23 August), round 12 of the Carrera Cup GB will start at 09.40 on Sunday (24 August) with round 13 at 15.40. Round 13 will be broadcast live on ITV4.

Live circuit commentary throughout the weekend will be available via www.btcc.net and live timing can be found at www.tsl-timing.com.
