New Journeys: Nicole Briscoe, wife of Verizon IndyCar Series CGRT driver Ryan Briscoe, announced that she has signed a new contract with ESPN to become a SportsCenter anchor after her role as host of NASCAR Countdown concludes. Nicole, who joined ESPN in 2008, will start her new SportsCenter role in January and the family will relocate to ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. headquarters. “I'm very happy with the opportunities that have been presented to me,” said Briscoe. “ESPN is where I want to be, and I'm excited about starting the next chapter of my career as well as a new adventure for my family.”

Pit-Fit Culture: Fitness is an important part of a Verizon IndyCar Series driver’s preparation for each race, and Briscoe takes this aspect of his job very seriously. Briscoe has become a firm believer in the cross-fit culture that has taken over the fitness world. He began his cross-fit regiment in the garage of a friend a few years ago and has stuck with him as his practice has grown. When Briscoe is in the Indianapolis area, he attends PitFit Training for driver-focused fitness workouts and when he is on the road he follows his own cross-fit workout plan.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR SONOMA

Ryan Briscoe and No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet

Blast from the Past: Briscoe has been on the podium at Sonoma Raceway four out of the eight times he has raced at the road course. His first pole in the Verizon IndyCar Series came at Sonoma in 2005 and his last win in the Verizon IndyCar Series came at Sonoma in 2012.

Briscoe, on Sonoma: “I love racing at Sonoma Raceway and I can’t wait to get out there on the track this weekend. We had a really good test there a few weeks ago and as a team we were able to pull some really good data. We are coming off a solid race in Milwaukee with a sixth place finish, and while it’s not a win, it’s definitely a finish that we can build on going into the end of the season. Everyone at NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing is ready for a win, and I think Sonoma is the place we can do it.”
