With a Victory in the Rearview Mirror, Burton Racing Heads to Virginia International Raceway

Fresh from a breakthrough team victory at Road America, Burton Racing will look to continue that momentum with strong results in the final three races of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. That effort will kick off this weekend at Virginia International Raceway as part of the big Oak Tree Grand Prix event.

The No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i shared by Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller will roll off the truck at VIR with the fresh memory of victory lane at Road America and ready to make a return visit this weekend.

Borcheller also arrives with extra confidence that can only come from familiarity as VIR has been especially good to him in the past. Since 2001, Borcheller has 17 starts around the historic circuit with highlights including four wins, two poles and five podium finishes in a range of championships.

The 3.27-mile road course is synonymous with North American sports car racing and is another driver-favorite highlight of the all-star 2014 IMSA schedule. The 17-turns and elevation changes demand attention from the drivers.

“We are really looking forward to VIR,” said Team Manager Keith Burton. “We have been working so hard all season and finally had a breakthrough with the No. 23 car at Road America. Now we are taking everything we have learned all season into this weekend and we are very ready for another positive event.”

The No. 22 Gold Eagle BMW 128i came frustratingly close to sharing the podium with the brother Burton BMW machine at Indianapolis, and had another strong outing at Road America before being knocked from podium position late in the race. Armed with some extra motivation from what might have been, the No. 22 squad is ready to make it happen at VIR this weekend. Drivers Connor Bloum and previous VIR race winner Hugh Plumb will share the driving duties on Saturday.

It will be another packed weekend for Burton Racing as a promoter test day on Thursday went in the books ahead of the official on track action. Burton Racing will participate in two official practices head of qualifying at 4:40 PM (ET) on Friday. The 2.5-hour race will go green Saturday at 2:05 PM (ET) and will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com. The race will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 on August 31 at 10:00 AM (ET).
