2014 Bristol: Tyler Young NASCAR Truck Race Recap

In a season outlined on gaining experience, Tyler Young continued his consistent rookie season at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS), posting a track best 18th-place finish in the rain delayed UNOH 200 on Thursday morning. The Young's Motorsports driver had two previous starts at the .533-mile oval in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), and dramatically improved his performance and result, earning the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award for the second consecutive week.

Young illustrated his team's improved performance and experience at BMS by putting up the first sub-15 second lap in Wednesday afternoon's lone practice session. After having to wait through a long rain delay that postponed the event, Young took the green flag from the 26th position and immediately moved forward, advancing as high as 21st on the score board. After losing a lap under green, Young received the "free pass" at the lap 50 competition caution, placing the Sunoco Rookie back on the lead lap. The Young's Motorsports driver battled a tight-handling Chevrolet Silverado for the remainder of the 200-lap event to cross the stripe in the 18th position behind race winner Brad Keselowski. The solid effort marked Young's eighth finish inside the top-20 in the last nine NCWTS races, and his career best BMS result.

Notes:
• Tyler Young was the highest finishing Sunoco Rookie of the race, finishing 18th in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway
• In 2014, Young has three top-15 and eight top-20 finishes
• Brad Keselowski won the 17th annual UNOH 200 at BMS
• Darrell Wallace, Jr. (second), Ron Hornaday, Jr. (third), and Matt Crafton (fourth), and Johnny Sauter (fifth) rounded out the remaining top-five finishers
• Up next for the No. 02 Young's Motorsports team is the Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada on Sunday, August 31, 2014

Quote - Tyler Young:
"We definitely improved our AKL Insurance Group Chevrolet from last year. Every week we keep working at it and seeing improvements. We've been doing a good job at getting to the end of these races every week, and we're really happy to show more speed every race. Today, we were just too tight from the center off. The nose would bounce through the center, making it difficult to make-up ground off the corner. It's great to keep improving, and we'll see what we can do at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park next week."

Practice: 20th, 15.772 seconds (121.659mph)
Qualifying: 26th, 15881 seconds (120.824)
