Mikko Hirvonen (7th) said:

“The pace that Jari-Matti [Latvala] and Sebastien [Ogier] are setting up front is unbelievable. There’s been quite a lot of mud on the stages but I’ve been fairly happy with our run this morning. We had a small mishap which cost us a few seconds on the first stage [SS1] – going straight on into a field – but apart from that it’s been pretty good and there’s a really tight battle emerging with Mads [Østberg], Andreas [Mikkelsen] and Dani [Sordo].”

Elfyn Evans (9th) said:

“It’s been a bit up and down this morning. The first stage [SS1] didn’t feel massively special but the time was OK and actually much better than I expected! The second one [SS2] was quite disappointing if I’m honest. There was a lot of mud and I was struggling to get grip so perhaps we were a bit too ambitious with the set-up. Having lost the confidence there it was quite difficult to get back up to where we were and on the last one I could sense everything getting a little hot so it was a case of managing that. There’s work to be done, but it’s certainly not been a bad start for us and we’re right in that mid-field battle which is really encouraging.”

Dennis Kuipers (13th) said:

“It was quite muddy and tricky out there, but the car is feeling very good. We’re using the same set-up that we used here two years ago and that seems to be working well. For the moment, it’s just a case of getting into a good rhythm and perfecting some of the notes for the afternoon.”

Yuriy Protasov (16th) said:

“The car is unbelievable. It’s a big difference from what I’m used to – a really big difference. It was quite slippery out there and we’re still getting used to the speed of a world rally car but I’m really enjoying it and it’s all good experience for the future.”
