Top Tens for Jack Daniel's Racing in Sydney

Jack Daniel's Racing Nissan Altima drivers Rick and Todd Kelly had an up and down day at Sydney Motorsport Park, with highlights including a third place starting position and a pair of top-ten finishes.

The opening 10-minute long qualifying session provided Rick Kelly with his best starting position of the season with third.

The pair of wet weather races then yielded results of sixth and ninth for Rick, with the second race seeing the number 15 machine charge through from 14th position at the start.

Despite the strong results, the day was somewhat frustrating for Rick, who suffered visibility issues in both 100km long encounters.

Todd Kelly on the other hand was the unfortunate victim of a pair of on-track clashes while running in strong positions.

After climbing to 14th in the opening laps of the first race for the day, the number 7 Nissan retired after contact with Fabian Coulthard.

The second race saw an even stronger result on the line, when a coming together with Garth Tander relegated Todd to 17th at the chequered flag.

Prior to the incident, he had risen 14 positions to run in 8th place.

The final day of competition at Sydney Motorsport Park is scheduled to feature a 20 minute long qualifying session and a lone 200km long race.

JACK DANIEL'S RACING QUOTEBOARD

RICK KELLY - #15 Jack Daniel's Racing Nissan Altima:
Qualifying Race 26- 3rd
Qualifying Race 27- 14th
Race 26- 6th
Race 27- 9th

"They were a couple of greatly improved results for us", said Rick Kelly.

"The car was massively improved in the dry, and we just missed it with the setup in the second qualifying session.

"The track gripped up and the balance went away a little bit, and we started further back.

"Like any race car driver, you always want to do better, and we had a couple of missed opportunities.

"In both races we had wiper failure, in the second race the car was much better than the first one, and unfortunately I couldn't see a damned thing.

"I ran through the sand trap on the corner apex a number of times, and I could not see a thing.

"It's unfortunate, because the car was good, it was very good for us to get ninth in those circumstances.

"Now we can look forward to tomorrow."

TODD KELLY - #7 Jack Daniel's Racing Nissan Altima:
Qualifying Race 26- 18th
Qualifying Race 27- 22nd
Race 26- DNF
Race 27- 17th

"It's incredibly frustrating to come away from today with very little to show for it," said Todd Kelly.

"In that second race we were able to come from 22nd through to eighth, and I feel there were more positions to be gained out there in the last few laps.

"The positive out of the day is that the form the Nissans had at Queensland Raceway has been carried over to here.

"The guys will clean it up, and we'll look forward to a better day tomorrow."
