Dunfermline Cub Scouts Inspired By American BTCC Ace Robb Holland

Robb ‘Hollywood’ Holland captivated a pack of Dunfermline Cub Scouts on Friday evening (22 August) by bringing the excitement of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) to the youngsters, as the series prepares to hit the high kerbs and steep undulations of Scotland’s spectacular Knockhill circuit.

American BTCC star, Holland, is an official ambassador of the California-based Racers Who Care (RWC) charity and has taken the cause on a trans-Atlantic voyage to Scotland, regaling the young generation with his own rousing real-life tales of sporting triumph and success, both as a pro cyclist and racing driver.

The amiable racer from Denver, Colorado is competing in his first full-time campaign in the Dunlop-backed BTCC – Britain’s premier motor racing championship – with a striking Oakley Motorsports-backed Audi S3 saloon and was only too happy to take time out of his busy schedule to visit the girls and boys of the 40th Fife Touch Cub Group from Dunfermline.

After sharing quick tips on winning in life, Holland was grilled by the Cub Scouts in an enlightening question and answer session, and then had the honour of soaking the Scout Leaders as part of an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which has gone viral and is aimed at raising money for research into Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a form of Motor Neurone Disease, and in the UK to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Holland said: “It was an absolute pleasure visiting the 40th Fife Touch Cub Group through my association with Racers Who Care (RWC) and sharing my own observations on how to succeed, based on years as a pro cyclist and racing driver in the highest echelons of motorsport – a field perceived as tough, ruthless and unforgiving. I always enjoy interacting with youngsters and I faced some really tough questioning too, particularly from young Rory, who clearly knew his stuff as a keen motor racing fan. In addition to that, it was pretty amusing to cap off my visit by drenching a couple of the Scout Leaders as part of the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge. Thankfully, I didn’t receive a nomination! I also want to thank the group for my gift – a Scottish Highland Cow cuddly toy – which will accompany me as a lucky mascot inside my Rotek Racing Audi S3 saloon throughout Knockhill’s BTCC weekend.”

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) qualifying will begin at 15.05 on Saturday (23 August), while Rounds 19, 20 and 21 are scheduled for 11.45, 14.05 and 17.07 respectively on Sunday (24 August) and will be beamed live and in high definition on ITV4 and ITV4HD.
