Kvsh Racing's Bourdais Looking To Finish Season Strong

KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais is looking to finish the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season with strong performances in the final two events beginning this weekend with the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, August 23-24, at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California.

Bourdais, who will be behind the wheel of the No. 11 Team HYDROXYCUT - KVSH Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone machine, is having his best season since returning to IndyCar competition in 2011 following a two-year stint (27 races) in Formula One and a season racing sports cars.

Bourdais currently sits ninth in the championship standings with 418 points, but is just 54 out of sixth, 70 from fifth and 76 out of fourth. With the two races remaining and Fontana worth double points there is a maximum of 162 points available. Given Bourdais' performances this year and his history at both Sonoma and Fontana, a run at a top-six finish in the championship is a strong possibility.

So far this season, Bourdais has finished in the top-10 seven times including five top-five showings, two podium performances with one win, his first in an IndyCar since 2007 (Toronto race one). He has captured two pole positions, also his first since 2007, taking the top spot on the grid at Toronto for race one and on the permanent road course at Mid-Ohio, where he finished second.

The 35-year-old Frenchman, the only driver to win four consecutive series championships (2004-2007), is contesting just his second full season of IndyCar racing (ran partial seasons in 2011 and 2012) since his return. In 2013, his first full season, he had his best finish in the championship standings of 12th. Bourdais is also trying to surpass the best finish by a KV Racing Technology driver currently held by Tony Kanaan, who placed fifth in the championship standings in 2011. KVRT co-owner and KVSH Racing partner Jimmy Vasser holds the second spot with a sixth place finish in 2005.

Bourdais successfully tested earlier this year on the scenic 2.385-mile, 12-turn Sonoma Raceway permanent road course where, in three previous races, he has finished in the top-10 twice with a best showing of sixth in 2011 and has qualified as high as third (2012). At Fontana, another track where Bourdais tested this year, he has just one start. In his Auto Club Speedway debut last year he had an outstanding performance qualifying an IndyCar oval high fourth (earned three poles on ovals in Champ Car: Lausitz - 2003; Las Vegas - 2005; Milwaukee - 2006) and led 35 laps until a late race incident ended his night.

"The Hydroxycut - KVSH Racing team had a good test at Sonoma earlier this year, so hopefully we will have a good baseline setup coming into this weekend," Bourdais said. "We have had good pace on the road and street circuits this year and had some very good results recently. There are just two races left in the season and we have a chance to move up in the standings and finish the season strong. Sonoma is a home race for Kevin and Jimmy (KV Racing Technology co-owners and KVSH Racing partners, Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser) plus we will have a lot of sponsors attending the race, so the whole team is looking forward to have a good race this weekend."

This weekend's GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, August 24. It can also be heard live on IMS Radio Network affiliates, XM Channel 209, Sirius Channel 213 IndyCar.com, IndyCarRadio.com or via the Verizon IndyCar14 app.
