Solid Qualifying Effort For GB Autosport at Virginia International Raceway

First-year IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship team GB Autosport secured a solid grid position after driver Damien Faulkner put in eight flying laps around the 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway circuit.

Faulkner’s co-driver for the weekend, Michael Lewis, will start Sunday’s Oak Tree Grand Prix from 10th on the GTD grid. The race marks the first event where the GTD machinery will compete among only the GTLM cars with just the two classes competing in the 2.75-hour race.

The No. 81 Tully’s Porsche 911 GT America did not roll off the truck at the historic road course as quickly as the team had hoped and worked to find more speed in the first practice sessions on Friday. The team quickly and tirelessly set to work on the Tully’s machine to give it the necessary pace to be competitive around the 17-turn track..

“Considering where we started this weekend, top-10 is really good,” said Faulkner after qualifications, which marked the season-best for the team. “The team made some changes from practice this morning that I definitely think improved the car. They are doing a great job, absolutely working their backsides off and I am so grateful to them. For the race tomorrow I think Michael Lewis and I can definitely be competitive and make our way up the field to give the team a solid finish.”

The green flag for the two hour, 45-minute Oak Tree Grand Prix will fly Sunday at 4:05 PM (ET) and will be televised LIVE on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 4:00 PM (ET).
