Saavedra To Make Fourth Start At Sonoma This Weekend

Sebastian Saavedra will make his fourth start at Sonoma Raceway tomorrow after qualifying today for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Driving the No. 17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc - KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone machine, Saavedra was in group two for the first round of qualifying. He posted a time of 78.5202 seconds (109.348 mph) on the 2.385-mile, 12-turn road course, which placed him 11th in the group and therefore didn't advance to the second round and will start 22nd in tomorrow/'s race.

"Unfortunately qualifying didn't go how we wanted," said Saavedra. "The car is very good, but we have had some issues with the brakes, which we weren't able to resolve. I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow. It's going to be more challenging starting from where we are, so strategy will play a big part. We have strong pace and I love this track, so I hoping that we have a good finish tomorrow."

This weekend is the final road/street course of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season. Saavedra has shown this year that he can battle through the field on numerous occasions no matter what type of track. He climbed an impressive 13 places in Long Beach, to secure his first top-10 finish of the season and was looking to have a podium finish at Iowa in his 50th career race after passing 14 cars, but a "moment", which he almost saved, ended with him tapping the wall. Just last month, at Mid-Ohio, he again moved through the field and was running sixth with the fastest lap of the race, before a mechanical problem ended his day.

In the previous three times that Saavedra has raced at Sonoma he has a best finish of 14th (2011) and a best start of 13th (2013).

The GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma will be broadcast live on NBCSports from 4 p.m. ET. on Sunday 24th August. The race broadcast will also be on XM 209, IMS IndyCar Radio affiliates, plus IndyCar.com and the Verizon INDYCAR 14 app.
