2014 Belgium GP (Spa): Formula One F1 Race Results - Ricciardo, Red Bull Win!

By Mike Sulka

Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 Red Bull has won the 2014 Formula One F1 Belgium Grand Prix GP at the Spa Francorchamps Circuit in Spa, Belgium. For Ricciardo, it is his third win - second straight - of the 2014 season, and third of his Formula One F1 career. It is also his sixth podium of the season and career. Compared to his 4-time world champion teammate Ricciardo has beaten Vettel 10 times to two in the races, and outqualified Vettel by a score of seven to five.

For Red Bull, it was the team's third win of the year, and 50th win in Formula One F1 competition.

Grabbing second - in front of booing fans - was Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes to pick up his 10th podium of the year, and 21st of his Formula One F1 career. The result also solidified Rosberg's grip on the drivers championship lead after his teammate - Lewis Hamilton - failed to score a point after being on the losing end of contact with Rosberg on lap two. Rosberg now leads by 29 points - which is more than a full race win (25).

Valtteri Bottas and his No. 77 Williams would finish third to pick up his fourth podium of the year, and his career.

In fourth, Kimi Raikkonen and his No. 7 Ferrari nearly picked up his first podium of the year, but would not. Raikkonen remains fifth on the all-time podium list, three behind Ayrton Senna (80).

Sebastian Vettel and his No. 1 Red Bull would round out the top five after a wild scrum between himself, Kevin Magnussen (McLaren), Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), and Jenson Button (McLaren) over the final two laps.

The opening laps were marked with chaos as polesitter Rosberg was overwhelmed by Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel. Vettel would run off track trying to get past Hamilton, which would move Rosberg up to second. On Lap Two, Rosberg would attempt to get past Hamilton, but the pair would make contact - Hamilton's left rear versus Rosberg's right front wing. Rosberg's wing would puncture Hamilton's tyre. All seemed to be fair-play as the Stewards never even bothered to investigate the incident.

Hamilton would limp around nearly the full distance and was never able to make-up ground. Hamilton would ultimately retire on lap 39 - "aero degradation" problem.

Next up for the Formula One F1 series will be annual visit to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks time.
