GEICO Motorcycle Rider Webb Posts Another Strong Endurocross Finish

GEICO Motorcycle Beta rider Cody Webb didn't get the result he wanted in the fourth round of the GEICO Motorcycle Endurocross Series on Saturday at Gwinnett Center, but he continued his torrid pace with a second-place finish.

Webb has now finished first or second on all four Endurocross races this season and is second in the points standings with five races remaining in 2014.

Webb held the lead in the main event in Atlanta before getting hung up in traffic and losing the top spot.

"It hurts to have been riding solid and have such a good lead and then to have one mistake from other riders and get hung up," Webb said. "We're still right there in the points battle where I want to be. We're in a good position."

Webb had a solid day in Atlanta, starting with fast hot laps in qualifying that preceded a victory in his heat race.

"In the first heat race I almost got the holeshot," Webb said. "I got pushed a little wide and charged ahead and got in the lead. I was able to pull away to a nice, sizeable gap and won the heat race.

"Before the main, we have a hot lap for seeding right in front of all the fans. I threw down a pretty solid time and did a couple new lines that no one had done. I just had one little hang-up and finished second."

But Webb then had a tough moment at the start-finish line.

"I think I'll be the laughingstock of Endurocross for a while," Webb said. "I augured pretty hard and hit my face and shoulder on the handlebars really hard. I had a headache instantly after that."

Webb, though, didn't let that get to him.

"I can't show any weakness," Webb said. "I got a good start in the Main and got right behind Taddy (Blazusiak). I felt really comfortable following him and I knew I could make a pass.

"I put a perfect, solid, clean pass on him and started gapping him a little bit. I got a sizeable lead."

Later in the Main, though, lapped traffic began stacking up in front of him. Blazusiak got around Webb, who had to settle for second.

"The lappers killed me every lap in the rock turn," Webb said. "Eventually I caught three of them in there at once, and another one tried coming in. There are four people, with no room to go, and I got hung up and lost a bunch of time."

Webb, though, vows to put in some work before the next Endurocross round, Oct. 4, in Denver.

"I'm going to spend a lot of time doing motos on my Endurocross track," Webb said. "I only rode it one time since Sacramento and it showed tonight. I'm just going to start pounding out moto after moto, and we'll be ready for the next race."
