Walton's V8 Ute Series Lead At Breaking Point

With Round 5 of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series just around the corner, ARMOR ALL Championship leader Kris “Killa” Walton is in rest mode after breaking his right hand in a Go Karting accident two weeks ago.

The Queensland based driver has been racing everything he can this year, including Go Kart’s and also the New Zealand V8 Ute Racing Series, which he is also leading, the former Saloon Car driver is hoping to be given the all clear the week of the Sandown 500 and is doing everything he can to keep it out of harm’s way.

“I’ve fractured it below the pinkie, it’s in splints so that it can’t be moved and I can’t take the splint off for another two weeks. I’m making progress, I originally had three fingers strapped but now I’m down to two, so hopefully in the next two weeks it will be all good to go,” said an optimistic Walton.

“The most frustrating thing is that I can’t race anything, I’ve been racing so much this year and it’s hard to just sit and watch, so I’ll definitely be keen to get behind the wheel come Sandown,” he explained.

Walton has always posted good results at the Melbourne Racetrack, winning Race 2 there on debut (2011) and last year he walked away with 2nd overall for the round, so he’s not too worried about the time off racing.

“We’ve had a good run every time we go there, so I’m feeling quietly confident, I hope to extend our lead a bit more,” said Walton.

The Rentco Racing driver had an interesting round at Sandown last year and was involved in a verbal altercation with Nathan Pretty after Race 2, the two were quite heated after an on-track battle, and Walton called Pretty a “Sooky la la” and even went as far as posting a dummy (pacifier) onto his on-board camera to make the point and is open about what to expect this year.

“Well you never know, it’s that time of the year now, we’re half way through and everyone starts to get a little on edge, as every point counts,” said Walton.

Pretty coincidently drove with a broken foot at last year’s Bathurst round but still boasted some good results.

Round 5 will kick off with two practice sessions Friday, 12th September at Sandown Raceway, Victoria.

Friday, 12th September Practice 1 10:15am
