Truex Finishes 37th After Engine Failure In Bristol

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 37th at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Saturday night. After reporting engine problems after just 330-some laps, Truex came to pit road where his BK Racing team diagnosed a blown engine and was forced to retire from the event.

After sustaining a concussion during a practice crash at Michigan International Speedway last weekend, Truex was cleared to race and returned to competition this weekend in Bristol, Tenn. The Sunoco Rookie contender rolled off 33rd for the iconic Bristol Night Race, but reported that his car lacked front and rear grip during the early stages of the event. Truex's BK Racing team made several significant changes to improve their racecar throughout the first half of the event.

Just past the halfway point of the race, Truex reported something amiss in the rear end of the Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry. Later reporting possible engine issues, Truex visited pit road on lap 338 when his BK Racing team found the engine had expired. Without power, Truex officially retired from the event and was credited with a 37th-place finish.

"My BK Racing team built a great Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry and it's always disappointing when your finish doesn't reflect the quality of your racecar," commented Truex. "I can't thank my team enough for standing behind me last week after I was hurt at Michigan International Speedway, and I appreciate their flexibility as we waited to see if I would be cleared to race this weekend. We'll certainly take the car back to analyze the engine and try to figure out what happened and find a way to prevent it from happening again."

Next weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take on Atlanta Motor Speedway. On Friday, August 29, FOX Sports 1 will cover practice (2:30 p.m. EDT) and qualifying (7 p.m. EDT), before handing coverage over to FOX Sports 2 for two additional practice sessions (3 p.m. and 6 p.m. EDT) on Saturday afternoon. The Oral-B USA 500 will be broadcast on ESPN, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, August 31.
