Double Win At Sonoma Raceway Secures Second Place In 2014 Indy Lights Championship For Jack Harvey

British racing driver Jack Harvey ended his first season in Indy Lights with another perfect race weekend; securing two pole positions and two wins at the Sonoma Raceway. Harvey’s dominance at Sonoma sees the young Brit claim second in the 2014 Indy Lights Championship in only his first season of racing in the States.

This weekend’s double win takes Harvey’s total number of wins for the 2014 season to five, with the British driver also securing ten podium finishes out of a possible fourteen.

Harvey’s dominant run of results saw him end the season tied on points with Gabby Chaves. The two drivers were also tied on number of race wins, so the Championship came down to number of second place finishes which Chaves just clinched.

Harvey and the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team had yet another flawless race weekend at Sonoma, posting the fastest lap on Saturday morning to clinch pole position for race one. Harvey was able to pull out a comfortable two-second lead in the opening stages of the race, which he had extended to 6.5 seconds by the time he took the checkered flag and victory 25 laps later.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver was even more dominant in Sunday afternoon’s race. Starting on pole position, Harvey effortlessly pulled away from the rest of field. No one else on track was able to match the young Brit’s pace and after 38 laps of racing he took victory almost 19 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

“Sunday was easily the most bittersweet day of my racing career! We had the perfect weekend with two pole positions and two race wins, but to miss out on the Championship by such a tiny margin is gutting. Not only did Gabby and I both tie on points, we also had the same number of race wins each so the Championship was decided on number of second places, it was such a close finish;” commented Jack Harvey.

“However, it has still been the most unbelievable season. It was my first season racing in Indy Lights and I’m really proud to be coming away second in the Championship with four wins, twelve podium finishes and top rookie. I want to say a huge thank you to the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team. They have worked so hard all season and this result is for the whole team. I also want to say a massive thank you to the Racing Steps Foundation for their continued support. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. And finally, I want to thank my family. They have been there for me through all the highs and the lows of my career to date and I am eternally grateful for all that they do for me;” continued Jack Harvey.

Final standings for 2014 Indy Lights Championship:

(1) Gabby Chaves 547 points

(2) Jack Harvey 547 points

(3) Zach Veach 520 points

(4) Matthew Brabham 424 points

(5) Luiz Razia 403 points
