After a run of misfortune campaigning their own Ginetta G55 GT3 over the past eighteen months, capped off by a mechanical failure causing a 140mph accident last time out at Spa-Francorchamps, Sharp and team-mate Colin White made the decision to assess new options for the remainder of the 2014 season.

Following discussions with a number of front-running teams and manufacturers, an agreement has been made to enter the Brands Hatch meeting with MP Motorsport, one of Aston Martin Racing’s official partner teams.

Sharp and White will drive one of the team’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3’s, a car widely regarded as one of the best on the grid. Aston’s have won three rounds of the championship so far this season, whilst MP’s regular drivers Mark Poole and Richard Abra have been regular top eight finishers.

Sharp is looking forward to tackling the prestigious Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in the Aston and heads into the two-hour race with confidence high having impressed in the corresponding race twelve months ago, with team-mate White having briefly led the race outright in the IDL Racing with CWS Ginetta.

Tom Sharp: “I’m really happy to have got this deal together. It’s going to be hard moving into a new car towards the end of the season, but we have tested the Aston before briefly. It’s a fantastic car and it provides us with our best chance yet of securing a breakthrough top five finish.

“The Ginetta proved to be a very quick car, capable of challenging at the front, but mechanical failures cost us a number of positive results. We are now arguably in the best car in the championship in the Aston Martin, prepared by one of the best teams, so it’s time for us to show what we can really do.”
