Emil Bernstorff Takes Points In Good Recovery Drives At Spa.

The weekend started with Bernstorff securing a front row start for the Saturday afternoon feature race in what was a tricky qualifying session on a typically wet Spa circuit. He had this to say: "It was a good qualifying for me to get the front row start after the summer break. On the first set of tyres it was a case of getting my lines right and seeing where the wettest parts were. Then when I went on to my second set I was able to just put the lap in. I got a little bit held up as I went in to the final corner so I think pole position was there for us. However, I’m pleased to be starting from the front row and look forward to a good race this afternoon.

Things didn't quite work out that way as the track again was wet when the race was about to start and Bernstorff along with the other top 5 starters opted for wet tyres whereas the field behind was mixed. A brilliant start saw Bernstorff leading into La Source, however, the track was drying quickly and he dived into the pits from the lead to change to slicks. This set him back 40s and a long way down the order. A great drive aided by a late safety car saw him battle through the field to finish 9th and secure a couple of points. "I went to the pits instead of the grid before the race to change tyres, the team was waiting on the grid, by the time I came back round, we had run out of time. After that we had good speed, so I'm really sorry for the team because we would have had a great shot at the win" said a gutted Bernstorff after the race.

The Sunday morning race saw Bernstorff make up 3 places to 6th at the checkered flag, this included some spectacular moves from Bernstorff first passing Stoneman into Eau Rouge on the first lap and later on with two wheels on the wet grass on the Kemmel straight as he passed Zamparelli. "I had good pace and stayed committed, P6 was about as good as we could have hoped for today" tweeted Bernstorff.

"The results of this weekend don't reflect the weekend accurately as I was one of the fastest cars on the track in every session, so I take a lot of positives from this weekend; good qualifying session, good race speed and good overtaking moves is all something we can build on for Monza" said an encouraged Bernstorff.

Next race weekend is Monza on September 5-6th.
