Looking For A Hometown Win, Arana Jr Is Ready To Roll At The U.S. Nationals

It has been almost a month since the last time Pro Stock Motorcycles were on the track, but rider Hector Arana Jr. is more than ready for the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, Aug. 27- Sept. 1, at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

After a disappointing finish in Sonoma, Calif., Arana has spent the last month preparing the Lucas Oil Buell and himself for the next time he would get on the track. He has primed himself mentally to look at this weekend like any other race, a chance to go rounds and possibly grab a win.

"We've been going through all the bikes and motors trying to get everything in tip-top shape for Indy," Arana said. "We're always trying to be in the best shape for every race. We want to feel like we're at 100 percent before we even get to the track.

"Other than that I'm trying to prepare by staying focused and keeping a clear mind. I've been going over everything mentally. The last race I was trying to ride the bike too much, I was trying too hard. I need to go back to doing my normal thing, just riding the bike and staying relaxed. I need to go at this one run at a time."

Not only is the U.S. Nationals the biggest race of the year, it's also a hometown event for Arana and his sponsor Lucas Oil.

"It's a home race for me and it's a home race for Lucas Oil," Arana said. "It's a really big deal and an even bigger race. We have lots of friends and family that will be there and same goes for Lucas Oil as well.

"To be able to do well at this race is very important for me. You always try to put on your best show for the people that come to support you. I want to do my best to make it worthwhile for them taking the time to come out. Without them, a lot of things wouldn't be possible."

Arana will hope to finish out the regular season with a win when qualifying sessions take place at 6 p.m., Friday; 2:30 and 6 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Sunday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Monday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2.
