2014 NHRA: Recent Time Off Could Be The Difference For Arana At The U.S. Nationals

After a season filled with ups and downs, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana is ready to finish the last seven races on a high note starting with the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, Aug. 27- Sept. 1, at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Trying to get the setup on his ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell figured out, the youngest Arana took advantage of the recent month off to prepare to race in Indy.

"Since Sonoma, Calif., we've really just been trying to go over the motor and figure it out," Arana said. "Having the month off definitely gave us some extra time to really try to fix the issue we've been fighting. It would have been nice if we could have gone and tested somewhere, but with the focus on getting the motor right, there just wasn't time. I think we're ready though.

"We've had some good runs at Indy as a team. I just hope to have a little more success there than I did last year and at previous races this season. One goal I have for the weekend is to qualify in the top half of the ladder. I haven't been able to all year but I think it's definitely doable."

Arana Racing will approach this weekend like it has any other race in the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, using the first couple of on-track days to test setups and perfect the bikes before eliminations.

"Hopefully the weather holds off this weekend," Arana said. "Since we didn't get to test before this weekend we'll use the first couple runs to really set up the bike to the track and work on minor changes from there. We will have five qualifying runs, unlike other races, which will be nice. It will give us a little bit more time to make sure we get everything right for eliminations."

Arana will look to be one of the quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle riders when qualifying sessions take place at 6 p.m., Friday; 2:30 and 6 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Sunday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Monday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2.
