Wood Remains Upbeat After Knockhill Set-Back

Lea Wood was in philosophical mood after a frustrating weekend in the British Touring Car Championship, insisting: "That’s just how motor sport is sometimes."

Wood, who competes for the Houseman Racing team, limped over the finishing line in the first race of the day at Knockhill after a heavy collision.

The 30-year-old, who is sponsored by Morris Lubricants, was forced to retire from the second race due to suspension problems but did go on to finish 24th in the final outing of the round.

"It was one of those weekends," said Hereford-based Wood. "Qualifying went OK but then it was just a downward spiral from there really.

"I had my best start of the season in the first race and managed to get into 19th place but then I was taken out by Rob Collard, ended up on the grass and was last.

"I caught up with the pack and then went for move around the outside at the last corner and Hunter Abbott hit me. It broke the wheel and I only just managed to make it over the line."

The Houseman team worked hard before the second race but three laps in the suspension failed on Wood’s Toyota Avensis and he was forced to pull out.

Wood started in P27 for the final race of the afternoon in Scotland and managed to finish in 24th.

Wood: "It’s frustrating, of course, but that’s motor sport and we knew it would happen at some stage of the season.

"There have only been two races that we haven’t finished this season, so that is very positive.

"We’ve got three meetings left. I like Rockingham and Silverstone and I love Brands Hatch so I want to finish the season in style."

Morris Lubricants is based in Shrewsbury and supply Wood with a high performance range of gear and transmission oils, brake fluids, greases and maintenance sprays to keep the car fully operational in the heat of British Touring Car Championship battle.
