Beechdean Hungry For Double Helpings At Brands Hatch

Reigning British GT champion Andrew Howard and driving partner Jonny Adam believe they have all the ingredients in place to make it an ice cream Sunday at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The Beechdean AMR duo head into the penultimate round of the 2014 season looking to blend their experience of the famous Kent circuit with the strengths of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in order to scoop a tasty haul of points and freeze their title rivals out of contention.

The 3.9km GP layout has been a happy hunting ground for the pairing in previous seasons, with a dominant win at the corresponding fixture last year a key milestone on the road to championship glory.

Serving up a repeat performance would put Howard and Adam, currently placed second in the overall standings, in pole position to retain the title.

However, while preparations for their latest outing have been to their taste, neither are under any illusion as to the scale of the challenge on the menu when the ultra-competitive British GT field lines up for the two hour race on Sunday.

Andrew Howard said: "It's great to get back racing again in British GT. The team have worked extremely hard to rebuild our Aston Martin GT3 car and we are aiming for success this weekend on a track that in the past has been very good for us. The championship is still up for grabs so it is important to have a good result this weekend. Our GT4 team also lead their championship, and after recent testing are confident of a strong performance this weekend."

Jonny Adam said: "Everyone in the team is really fired up for this race after a long break since the last one. Our preparations have been ideal and the car will be fresh out of the box, so we feel we have a very strong package. We’re getting to the sharp end of the season now, and with double points on offer it’s really a must-win race if we want to put ourselves in the strongest possible position to win the championship.”

Qualifying for round six of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will take place on Saturday August 30, with the two-hour race event scheduled to start at 13:05 on Sunday August 31.
