Grant Confident Of Strong Snetterton Showing

George Grant is optimistic of capitalising on recent promising performances as he continues his quest to raise awareness for Mission Motorsport at round six of the MaX5 Racing Championship at Snetterton this weekend (August 30).

Despite never having raced at the Norfolk venue, pre-season testing there means that Grant’s confidence remains unshaken following an improvement in pace at Oulton Park last time out.

“I’m really looking forward to Snetterton,” admitted Grant. “It’s an exciting, challenging and extremely fast circuit, which places emphasis on corner exits as they’re usually followed by prolonged periods at full-throttle. You also need a balance that allows you to fully attack the many hairpins, so it’ll be an interesting weekend for the Mission Motorsport mechanics and myself.

“Looking at the track, Oggies and Murrays are two decisive corners, as they dictate your speed along the back stretch and the main Senna Straight. Hopefully our weight-shedding efforts and aerodynamic tweaks will begin to pay dividends when racing at these high speeds.”

After first sampling his Mazda at Snetterton in March – where he received tuition from former F1 driver Martin Donnelly – Grant now has an opportunity to assess how he’s improved since, while also fully attacking a circuit he’s familiar with following a raft of developments introduced to the Mk3 MX-5 in recent races.

“It’s important to have a soft but stable set-up at Snetterton,” explained Grant . “It features some corners where you need to balance the car on a knife-edge. Other important attributes are stability under braking and traction, with the latter an area where we know we need to improve.

“The next step for me personally is being able to push the car right to the limit and to consistently keep it there throughout a weekend. While feeling increasingly comfortable in the car, I’m learning how to absorb setbacks and turn them into positive energy, so hopefully we can make another significant leap forward soon.”

George’s competitive debut at the 2.969-mile circuit will evoke memories of father Ronnie’s Formula Super Vee exploits in the early 1970s after a hectic schedule saw Grant Sr. capture pole position at Snetterton and Silverstone on the same day, before flying – literally – to a podium finish after returning to Norfolk.

While the GGR Motorsport driver is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, he will no doubt be hoping for some family magic as he looks to take another step forward this weekend.

Qualifying: 10:20 – 10:35
Race 1: 14:20 – 14:40
Race 2: 17:45 – 18:05

Both races are live as part of Motors TV's Live Raceday on Freeview 240, Sky 447 and Virgin 545.
