2014 Atlanta: Michael Annett NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Preview

This Labor Day weekend, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Michael Annett, with his Tommy Baldwin Racing team, will tackle the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway for NASCAR's lone stop in the Peach State in 2014.

The event marks Annett's first Cup Series start at Atlanta, though he has made five NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the racetrack, averaging a finish of 15.8 with a best result of 10th coming in 2012. Annett competed in three Cup Series races already this year at similar-shaped tracks Las Vegas, Texas and Charlotte, finishing 29th, 29th and 28th, respectively.

To support an awareness campaign for St. Jude Children's Research HospitalĀ®, Annett and the TBR team will feature the logo of St. Jude, Annett's charity of choice since 2009, on the No. 7 Chevrolet SS alongside partner Pilot Flying J. Annett served as the honorary chairperson for the St. Jude Tournament of Hope, a golf tournament that took place earlier this month in the driver's hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.

Sunday's race will air live on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

"Our speedway program has improved a lot from the start of the season. We started working on the intermediate package since the test at Charlotte last winter, and Bono [Manion, crew chief] has helped move it forward. Atlanta is going to be a good test for us, with it being a hot, slick track. The key for us is to get better as the weekend progresses."
