Simeon And Baldassarri Looking For A Comeback After Difficult Silverstone Qualifying

The British Grand Prix, scheduled for tomorrow at the Silverstone circuit, will start from the sixth row of the grid for Xavier Simeon and the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2: the Belgian rider set the 17th fastest time with 2’08”433 in this afternoon’s qualifying. However, Siméon is still optimistic for the race, knowing that he keep a good pace.

Lorenzo Baldassarri will line up the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter machine in 23th place: the Italian rookie is disappointed because he was not able to make the most of the softer tyre during the final stages of the qualification.

XAVIER SIMEON (17th - 2'08"433)
“Today, unfortunately, we have not taken advantage of our potential: we could get a better starting position. This weekend we set ourselves the target of making good qualifications, because in Brno we realized how much the starting position affected our race. Unfortunately, we were not able to make that small step. The positive thing is that we have a good race pace: we know we are more competitive compared to Brno, so we look forward to the Grand Prix”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (23rd - 2'08"770)
“I’m angry, because I was not able to make the most of the soft tyre, which could have offered a significant improvement of a few tenths of a second... when I put it I immediately felt the difference, but first I didn’t find any rider that could be a reference in front of me, then in my last attempt I had to close the throttle in the first sector of the track due to traffic; I lost a second, and then it was not enough to do my best sector time in T2 and T3... Too bad, it was a wasted qualification. Tomorrow morning in the warm up we will be work on race pace, then try to recover hoping to be helped by a good start”.

“Today we missed our target: compared to Brno, Siméon have been feeling good since the first free practice, yesterday, so we were optimistic ahead of qualifying. Unfortunately, we didn’t go beyond the sixth row, so on the paper we expect a difficult race tomorrow. Xavier can count on a good rhythm, but we know how difficult it is to recover positions in Moto2 races. Baldassarri has significantly lowered his lap times today, but we are a bit disappointed because he had the chance to take off some other tenths of a second, that would have meant starting a few more position ahead”.
