2014 NHRA: Brogdon Turning Heads In Indianapolis With Owens Corning Chevy

After a four-race hiatus from the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon made his return for the biggest race of the year, the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.

Laying down his fastest pass of 6.665 seconds at 207.94 mph in Q2, Brogdon's Owens Corning Chevrolet Camaro is currently 16th with two passes left to go before final eliminations. With some horsepower still left under the hood, Brogdon isn't concerned about his chances this weekend.

"It feels fantastic being back at the track," Brogdon said. "We've of course used the time off to do a lot of work at the shop to get our program back up to steam to where it's supposed to be. It's a close, competitive Pro Stock field but we wouldn't be here if we didn't think we were ready.

"There's no reason the fastest guy so far is at a .58. Based off our last performance we had, we ran decent, usually within three-thousandths of the fastest guy out there. I think that means we should easily run a .61 this weekend, and I won't be happy until we do."

While he is looking to harness more speed heading into the last qualifying sessions at Lucas Oil Raceway Sunday, Brogdon can't help but smile. With a new sponsor on board starting this week, Brogdon has displayed the Owens Corning brand proudly with every pass he has made.

"Bringing a new sponsorship to this sport is a big deal," Brogdon said. "I'm happy to not only introduce Owens Corning to NHRA, but to be able to do it on my return to the track is even better.

"There is no better place to debut a sponsor for sure than at Indy. It doesn't get any bigger than the U.S. Nationals, and I'm proud to display Owens Corning along the way."

Brogdon will look to improve in the final two sessions of qualifying when they are held at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday with eliminations starting at approximately noon Monday. Both qualifying and elimination action will be broadcast on ESPN2.
