Traveling Abroad, Webb Secures Second-Place Finish For Team America

While in between races on the 2014 GEICO AMA EnduroCross schedule, GEICO Motorcycle Beta rider Cody Webb traveled to Columbia with seven other top American riders to compete in a non-points race, the International EnduroCross of Medellin.

Continuing his success overseas, Webb motored to a win in the first moto. However, a slight issue in Moto 2 set Webb behind early on in the race, but he was able to work his way through the field to get a fourth-place finish and second overall in the event.

"The racing went really well, the track was fun," Webb said. "Everyone ended up borrowing bikes from local dealers before the race, so I wasn't on my normal race bike.

"I won the first moto pretty easily. Then in the second moto I actually went to make the pass for second on the second lap and my tank fell off. So I went off the track second to last in the field and came back on the track with the mentality that it wasn't over. I pushed really hard because it wasn't a points-paying race and almost made the podium on the last lap around the final turn.

"I finished fourth though and that was what kept me from getting the overall win. I was right there and we were good on speed. I just had to overcome a couple of racing incidents, but that happens all the time. It was really fun, and I hope they bring us back for another one-off event like that."

While this was the first-ever International EnduroCross of Medellin, Webb believes that it was a very successful event for everyone involved. Unlike usual races on the circuit, Webb and the other American riders were able to experience the Columbian culture when they weren't on the track competing.

"It was definitely a really cool one-off race to be a part of," Webb said. "The promoters did a good job to offer us great hospitality while we were there. It was cool to be able to go somewhere and see some of the culture. Usually we go to a race and we don't get to see much else because we are so focused on racing. It was just a cool opportunity for us all the way around."

Webb will return to the track when the 2014 GEICO AMA EnduroCross season continues Oct. 4 in Denver.
